Jerome L. Goolsby
Pony Express Post 359, American Legion Department of Missouri
Jerome L. Goolsby is a member of the American Legion through his service during the Cold War and the Lebanon/Grenada Era. He served in the United States Air Force from 1975 - 1995 retiring in 1995 as a Technical Sergeant. During his USAF career he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal [with one oak leaf cluster], the Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal [with five oak leaf clusters], National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and the Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal with "N" Device along with other honors.
Legionnaire Goolsby joined American Legion Post 297, Department of Maryland, in 1993. He remained a member of
that Post until his retirement from the USAF in 1995. He then returned to his hometown of Saint Joseph, Missouri,
and transferred his membership to American Legion Pony Express Post 359, Department of Missouri.
He has served Post 359 as Historian in 1995 - 1996, 1997 - 1998, 2009 and in 2017 - 2022, as 1st Vice Commander for
1998 - 1999 and 1999 - 2000 and as Adjutant for 2000-2008 and 2009 - 2022 and was elected as Commander for 2017 - 2022. Legionnaire Goolsby
has also served as 4th District Historian for 1998 - 2000 and 2011 - 2018, 4th District
Southern Vice Commander for 2000 - 2002, 4th District Adjutant for 2009 - 2011 and was elected
4th District Commander for 2002 - 2004, 2006 - 2008,
2012 - 2014 and 2016 - 2018. Legionnaire
Goolsby has also served as Chairman of the 4th District Boy Scout Committee from
Legionnaire Goolsby has also served at the Department level as Department Zone II Vice Commander for 2004 - 2005 and as Department Historian from 2018 - 2023. He has also served on the Membership Committee, Publications Committee, BSA Committee, Public Relations Committee, Media & Communications Commission, Department Insurance Committee, S.A.L. Commission, and served on the D.E.C. Sub-Committee from 2003 - 2004 and again from 2006 - 2008. He was chairman of the D.E.C. Sub-Committee from 2007 - 2008. He is currently chairman of the BSA Committee, a position he has held since 2014.
Jerome L. Goolsby is also member of The Sons of The American Legion through his late father's Vietnam Era U.S. Naval Reserve service. He has been a member of S.A.L. Pony Express Squadron 359 since 1997. He has served the Squadron as Commander from 1998 - 2001, 2002 - 2008, 2009 - 2011 and from 2015 - 2022. In his first four terms as Commander, the Squadron was "Over The Top" in membership each year, and was "Over The Top" again in 2010, 2016, 2017 and 2021. In 2003, the Squadron was the co-winner of the Outstanding Squadron Award for the Detachment of Missouri. He also served as Western Vice Commander of the S.A.L. Detachment of Missouri for 1999 - 2000 and 2000 - 2001 and as Assistant Adjutant for 2009 - 2010. Commander Goolsby was recognized with a Distinguished Service Award by Sons of The American Legion National Commander Raymond P. Giehll, Jr. at the 2008 National Convention of the Sons of The American Legion.
